Buy This Not That

The 1982 Chateau d’Yquem Sauternes earned 95 points and costs $999 for a cost of about $10.52 per point. Robert Parker called it “a great Yquem”. But he also wrote a book, Parker’s Wine Bargains: The World’s Best Wine Values Under $25 that reveals a better value…

2017 Domaine Bordenave Cuvee des Dames Jurançon retails for $30 per bottle or $180 for a half case. It is currently on sale for $25 and with this sign up bonus you can get a half case for $100. They’re both good but fairly similar. While the first bottle might be slightly better, it is nowhere near as good a value.

The cheaper wine rates 94 points. With a net cost of $16.67 per bottle, that comes to $0.18 per point or under 2% the cost per point of the famous d’Yquem. If you’ve never shopped at Wine Access before, you can get the big sign up bonus and a great dessert wine. If you like underpaying, then buy the Bordenave not the d’Yquem.
